Eczema should not control you, you can control your eczema!

Eczema is an extremely common skin condition. One in 5 children and 1 in 10 adults are affected by eczema in the UK (National Eczema Society). Many patients spend weeks/months, even years feeling itch, pain and discomfort because they have not been able to get specialist management.

Undiagnosed and uncontrolled eczema can leave you feeling tired and isolated. Yet an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment controls more than 90% of eczema within weeks.

‘Eczema does not affect just the individual, but the whole family’ – Dr Rallan

Diamond Skin Care has therefore designed one of the fastest and most individualised ways of managing eczema with no referral needed!

More than 90% of our patients have rapid relief within 2 weeks of starting treatment.

Diamond Skin Care treats over 200 eczema patients annually.

What happens on the day of your Eczema Consultation?

You will be seen in person by one of our Specialists, at your chosen location.

Your Consultation is an opportunity to sit and talk through your journey, as well as all of the issues that you are having and every treatment that you have tried so far. The specialist gathers all information of the allergy background, pattern of eruptions and distribution of eczema. This allows all complex decisions such as the value of allergy testing, patch testing, strength and type of treatment to be made with precision and accuracy for your circumstance.

The Dermatologist will then assess your skin thoroughly to confirm their diagnosis, and talk you through your best treatment options. They will help you make the right choice for you.
If you decide to join our Eczema programme: this is a 4 month plan to start stronger tablet treatments safely. You will be monitored closely from start to finish. We arrange monthly face-to-face follow-up appointments to assess your skin and response, carry out blood tests to ensure continued safety and re-issue the prescription with carefully adjusted dosage. If you are female then we may also perform a pregnancy test for you at each visit depending on your circumstances. Your specialist will guide your dosage and treatment length; determined based on your weight, eczema severity and response throughout the programme.

If you do not require the systemic eczema programme, then your specialist will issue a private prescription, with your permission share your notes with your GP and arrange a free follow-up appointment to make sure that the treatment is working for you and that you’re satisfied with the results as well as amend any management plan for maintenance and long-term control.

It’s best to avoid alcohol whilst on our Eczema programme, or at least keep the amount you drink to a minimum. This is because there’s a risk of damage to your liver or kidneys. However, these are monitored during your treatment.

Will I get tested for allergies?

During your consultation, your Specialist will assess and discuss with you if an allergy test could help you in the long term. For example, if there is suspicion of contact-related eczema. We offer patch testing at our clinic in Norwich, should this be necessary, or the Specialist can do a referral to your GP.

Can my diet cause Eczema?

The role of diet in eczema is not well understood however there is no robust evidence which shows a connection between diet and adult eczema.

We aim to ensure your condition is kept under control with the right treatment plan, however, there is no scientifically proven treatment to cure Eczema.

What moisturiser/ emollient should I use?

Each case of eczema is unique and it is usually a bit of trial and error with moisturising creams and emollients to find which one suits your skin best.

I’m worried about the use of steroids, will these affect me long term?

We frequently see patient’s who are worried about the use of steroids and how this will affect their skin in the long term. When steroids are used appropriately and as instructed by your doctor, it is a safe and effective treatment. Side effects such as thinning of the skin can occur with improper use of potent steroids on more delicate areas of the skin.
