Before you begin your personalised treatment plan, you are seen by a Diamond Skin Care dermatologist at one of our clinics for a first consultation. Your dermatologist will be responsible for your ongoing care throughout your programme.
During this first consultation a record of information surrounding your medical background, family history and sometimes occupation and lifestyle will be taken. After examining your skin and analysing your medical history your dermatologist will discuss your diagnosis and management plan.
Due to the nature of Isotretinoin, it is essential to record your weight so that the correct dosage is used. Along with this, blood tests are taken regularly throughout your treatment to monitor its ongoing safety. If you are female, a pregnancy test for every month will be required. This is to make sure that no harm can be done to an unborn foetus. Due to these tests, and to monitor your skin, we organise monthly consultations with your dermatologist.
Isotretinoin is an oral drug proven to cure acne. It works by targeting the most important factors that cause acne and some other skin conditions, including the production of sebum (an oily substance produced by the skin) and the bacteria that contribute to acne.
Studies show that around 90% of those using Isotretinoin for acne are spot free within 16 weeks.
Before you start your acne-cure treatment plan you will be given an information leaflet on Isotretinoin and the plan, so that you can ask your dermatologists any questions at your first consultation.
Most individuals that start our acne-cure package are acne free after 4 months of treatment. Within this time frame, all your consultations, tests and medication are included in your package price, along with access to your dermatologist through email and phone. We can either provide your medication in your consultations or post them directly to your home address.
Each treatment package varies dependent on the individual and their skin response. Depending on the severity of your acne, the dosage and treatment length will vary. 85% of our acne-cure patients are acne free by week 16 of their treatment.
At the end of your treatment you will have a consultation with your dermatologist, where you can ask any questions or advice you may have. After your package ends, you will still have email and telephone access to your care team for any problems and questions that may arise.
